When it comes to easy card tricks, it doesn’t get much easier than self-working card tricks. Self-working tricks don’t require much ability. All you have to do is follow each step correctly. The problem with these tricks is that often times, they don’t seem very magical and are easy to figure out. 

This self-working trick is different! I have impressed and confused many people with this trick and it is SO easy!

Here’s how it works:

1.) Tell a volunteer that you are going to teach them how to do a magic trick and give them the cards.

2.) Ask them to fan the cards out with the numbers facing away from them. And tell them to tell you to choose a card, but not to let them see it.

3.) Pretend to be looking for a certain card or deciding what card to pick. You need to inconspicuously look at the first two cards of the deck. Let’s say they are the Ace of Spades and the Queen of Hearts.

4.) In this situation you need to choose either the Ace of Hearts or the Queen of Spades (Not the Ace of Spades or Queen of Hearts!). You will understand why in a minute.

5.) Once you choose the card, let’s say it was the Queen of Spades, tell the volunteer to tell you to memorize the card and to show it to the audience, but not to let them see it.

6.) Once you have memorized the card, set it down on a nearby table within sight, and have the  volunteer square the deck.

7.) Now tell volunteer to deal a pile of ten cards.

8.) Then have the volunteer take that pile of ten cards and deal it in to two piles of five cards. It’s very important to have him deal one card to one pile and then one card to the second pile. If he does not alternate like that, this trick will not work!

9.) Once the volunteer dealt the two piles of five, you flip over the top card of one of the piles. It will be either the Ace of Spades or the Queen of Hearts. If it’s the Ace of Spades, ask, “What’s the suit of this card?” They will answer, “Spades.”

10.) Repeat step nine with the other pile. It will be the Queen of Hearts. Ask, “What’s the value of this card?” They will answer “Queen.”

11.) Repeat these two questions several times until you think the point has sunk in and then ask, “So, what card did I choose?” They will obviously answer Queen of Spades. Then you flip over the card you chose, revealing the Queen of Spades!

The funniest part of this card trick is when they try to reverse the roles and they pick the card! They think they are doing everything that you do, but it won’t work at all because they don’t pick the correct card! 

It’s also very important to find the right card to pick quickly, or the volunteer might get suspicious. This becomes easier with practice, though. So, don’t worry.

As far as easy card tricks go, this one ranks right up there with the best!
